Noia

It is a nice medieval town located at the end of the Ría (land inlet) de Muros e Noia, a just 25 miles /40 km from Santiago de Compostela. It was born probably around the 11th century with the aim of being the merchant and fishing port of Santiago de Compostela, trading mainly with Ireland and England. But in the 18th century it started its decline as the Spanish alliances did not allow Noia to carry on trading with these two countries. Don’t miss the San Martino church, Santa Maria A Nova Church with more than 200 tombstones and many other examples of interesting civil architecture in the town. Nowadays, Noia lives from small commerce and seafood fishing.
